Overview

Durham Nativity School seeks to admit young men and families who value education and are committed to meeting the expectations of our twelve-year program. Our graduates are afforded the opportunity to attend independent, college preparatory high schools, and earn a college degree.

Students who are most successful at DNS enjoy learning, possess integrity, and are motivated. The admissions process is designed to identify students and families who will benefit from our specialized programs.

Family Commitment

  • Actively engage in and support your student's school projects and homework
  • Join and attend Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) meetings monthly
  • Volunteer 12 hours supporting DNS (PEP events, new student recruitment, and more)

Process (Applications for 2027 - 2028 are open)

  1. Complete the application and upload the required documents 
  2. Attend the Open House or complete an inquiry to schedule a tour
  3. Submit a complete application portfolio for consideration:
    A. Completed application
    B. Two teacher recommendations and a recommendation from either the school counselor/social worker or principal/asst. principal
    C. EOG test scores and report cards
    D. Income documentation
  4. Complete an interview and an academic assessment  

Admissions Policy

Durham Nativity School values diversity and seeks talented students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. In the admission of students and in our employment practices, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, creed, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected class status.

Preference is given to qualified candidates who are eligible for the National School Lunch Program. To verify, a copy of the family’s tax return is submitted.

The school is an independent middle school and does not offer a public Exceptional Children (EC) program, comprehensive special education services, or specialized instructional tracks. Admission is open to students who can succeed within our standard, rigorous academic curriculum without substantial modification.

While we review applicants with existing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, or educational evaluations, Durham Nativity School does not implement public school IEPs or guarantee specialized services. Accommodations are provided solely on a limited, discretionary basis, subject to prior administrative approval and existing school resources.

Submission of an IEP or learning plan does not obligate the school to provide specific accommodations or grant admission. As an independent school, Durham Nativity School does not receive public special education funding and is not subject to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

In compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Durham Nativity School does not discriminate on the basis of disability and considers reasonable accommodations that do not fundamentally alter our educational program or impose an undue administrative or financial burden.
