Admissions Philosophy
Durham Nativity School seeks to admit young men who aspire to go on to a competitive private high school and then to college. For this reason, potential students should enjoy school and learning, and should have motivation to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. In addition, qualified applicants must possess honesty, integrity, and self-control. The admissions process is designed to identify students and families who will benefit from our specialized instruction and programs.

The candidate and his family must be committed to a year-round educational experience.

Student and Family Commitment
In order to offer the best possible education,
Durham Nativity School requires that each student attends school
prepared to learn.
This is a commitment on behalf of the student, the family, and the school.
Parents and guardians will be expected to support and reinforce all values and practices of the Durham Nativity School,
at home, in the school activities, and in the student’s educational process. Their involvement and support will produce a more complete child.

Admissions
Process
In order to ensure
that we are the right match for your child and that your child is
the right match for us, each student is required to complete the
following steps:
- Attend 8 weeks of Saturday Academy Classes (SAC) during
the spring
Spring 2008 SAC Program
The purpose of the
Saturday Academy Classes (SAC) program is to observe students
in the classroom to determine their level of participation
and behavior in an academic setting. Students will be evaluated
on their participation and completion of homework.
The SAC program consists
of classroom instruction/tutorials in Language Arts and Math.
Classes are held from 10:00 a.m. –-- 12:00 p.m.
February 2, 9, 16, and
23; March 1, 8, 15, and 29
Students are required to
wear a uniform which consists of khaki pants, white polo shirt
(tucked in at all times), black belt, and sneakers. |
- Attend Summerbridge for three weeks in June, 2008.
- In addition, a 1040 tax return for the student's family
for the previous year must be submitted, as well as a copy
of the W2 forms for each working member of the student's household.
The Camp Sea Gull Experience
April 1, 2008 - April
4, 2008
The purpose of this 5-day camp experience is to provide
team-building and leadership experiences, as well as to
allow faculty to observe student interactions and behaviors
away from home. Attendance at Camp Sea Gull (located in
Arapahoe, NC –- near New Bern, NC) is an admissions
requirement for Durham Nativity School.
Camp and school personnel will evaluate each student’s
camp experience and a narrative will be presented to the
admission’s committee. In addition, each student
will write a reflective essay about his camp experience.
