Dr. Daniel J. Vannelle

Dr. Vannelle grew up in Shadyside, Ohio and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from The Ohio State University in 1976. Dr. Vannelle also earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from The Ohio State University in 1981. He returned to his hometown, Shadyside, Ohio to practice dentistry from 1981-2001. From 2001-2004, Dr. Vannelle taught Science and Math at Eagles Nest Ranch and Academy, an alternative school for at-risk youth in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Moving to North Carolina, Dr. Vannelle taught in Hillsborough at Abundant Life Christian Academy. Dr. Vannelle joined Durham Nativity School for the 2005-2006 academic year to teach Science and Math. Prior to his promotion to DNS Principal, Dr. Vannelle taught three grade levels of Science and served as the School Dean of Admissions. He lives in Efland, North Carolina with his wife, Beth.

Arthur Jimerson is originally from Norfolk, Virginia, where he attended and played football at Norfolk State University. Following his college career, he went on to play defensive end for the Los Angeles Raiders. After a knee injury, he returned to Norfolk State to complete his studies and graduate with honors. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics and Urban Education respectively.
Mr. Jimerson brings an extensive background in teaching and counseling to his multiple roles at DNS and is very passionate about his work with previous students and will bring that same initiative to his DNS students.
Kathryn E. DuPree

Mrs. DuPree was born in Dennison, Ohio, grew up in New Jersey and lived in Reading, Pennsylvania, before eventually settling in North Carolina. She attended Taylor Business Institute in New York City, as well as Reading (PA) Area Community College. Mrs. DuPree founded the Girls Club for the Police Athletic League in Reading and served as its Office Manager and Director of Leadership Development, where she worked with over 65 girls from ages 6-18 years old. Mrs. DuPree has been married to Willie L. DuPree for 41 years and has one daughter. After her daughter went to college, she additionally raised several foster children.

Ricky Oliver was born in Denver, Colorado and lived in Richmond, California during his high school years. He attended the University of Denver receiving his bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Psychology and played varsity level basketball. In the summer before his sophomore year in college, he was led in his faith to serve young people. Following this calling, he later earned a Master’s degree in Social Work while earning his Principal License accreditation. Mr. Oliver has over twenty years in education as a secondary social studies teacher and administrator. In both his personal and professional life, Mr. Oliver continues to have a strong desire to love and serve the Lord through his relationships within our school and neighbors in the community.

QuRita Hunter grew up in Durham and has recently returned back to the area after being away for nearly 15 years. Mrs. Hunter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Elizabeth City State University and a Masters from Strayer University. Her years of experience in working with youth in nonprofit agencies, public schools and community colleges developed her passion for education and motivating youth to excel. She believes she can help make a difference in the lives of many young people. Mrs. Hunter is an active member of her sorority, which promotes academic excellence in education; community service; and participation in political and legislative processes. She enjoys traveling, quilting, reading and watching basketball and football. She is married and has one son. She enjoys working closely with our youth and the community to make a positive difference.
Maura A. Sullivan

Maura has lived in Durham a majority of her life. She is a 1991 graduate of Belmont Abbey College with a degree in Psychology. She is also a 2009 graduate of the Duke University Paralegal Studies program. For the past 11 years she has worked at the school in many roles. Currently, she is the Director of Middle School Admissions where she oversees the recruitment and application process for young men and their families interested in matriculating to Nativity School in 5th & 6th grades and becoming a part of an eleven-year program. Maura lives in Durham with her four children ranging in ages 15-21.
Faculty – Art
Tom Dunne originates from Long Island, New York, and has lived and raised his two daughters here in North Carolina since 1990. He has had a long career in advertising and editorial illustration, graphic design, and fine art, including a long association with American Scientist Magazine, which is published locally here in RTP. He studied painting under one of only six students of Norman Rockwell. As a teacher, Mr. Dunne feels it is time to share some of the knowledge he has gratefully accumulated through a long and varied career in visual art.
James “Mike” Glenn

James “Mike” Glenn originally hails from Newark, NJ and graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC in 2006. Prior to joining our faculty, Mr. Glenn served in a management capacity for various retail businesses. An experienced youth soccer, basketball, t-ball and football coach, Mr. Glenn adds his talent to our faculty/staff teaching Math 6 and pre-algebra. Mr. Glenn is the proud father of three and enjoys leisure time with his family as well as playing and coaching sports.

Mrs. Yuhase grew up in Prince Frederick, Maryland. She graduated from Radford University with a degree in Business Administration in 2008. While at Radford, Mrs. Yuhase played NCAA Division I field hockey for the Highlanders. She moved to Northern Virginia after graduation, and worked as a Federal Financial Management Consultant for IBM until 2012. After discovering her true passion was teaching, Mrs. Yuhase decided to go back to school and received a Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in English Literature, from North Carolina State University. In addition to her love for teaching, Mrs. Yuhase enjoys coaching field hockey, and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Yuhase lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband, Jason, her son, Luke, and their English bulldog, Daisy.

Ms. Anderson grew up on a horse ranch in Northern California. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Haverford College in 2006 and her Master of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Irvine in 2009. Ms. Anderson is a co-founder and vice-president of CLEAN Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing global climate change education for K-8 students. Before moving to Durham and the Durham Nativity School, Ms. Anderson taught high school Biology for 2 years in eastern North Carolina.

Kevin Mahoney has enjoyed traveling, teaching and learning languages since an extended stay in Bogota, Colombia as a high school student. That experience inspired him to get him a B.A. in Spanish at Metropolitan State College of Denver which also allowed him to study and live in Ecuador and Mexico. After completing a B.A., Mr. Mahoney studied at the Conservatory of Recording Arts is Arizona and enjoyed five years working as a sound engineer in Los Angeles, California. After teaching English in Korea for four years, Mr. Mahoney returned to complete a Master’s of Arts degree in Instruction at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. Mr. Mahoney teaches the 5th Grade Class.
Faculty – Math
Born and raised in San Jose, California, Michael Newman completed his undergraduate studies in the Midwest at the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and then continued his education in the Northeast at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he received a Master of Science degree in Computer and Systems Engineering. With prior experience as a software engineer and as a middle and high school teacher, Mr. Newman brings his talents to the faculty teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math. He lives in Raleigh with his wife and three children where he enjoys coaching ice and roller hockey.
Faculty – Languages
Siobhan Rearick grew up in England and studied foreign languages at Durham University, during which time she also spent a year living and teaching in France. After college she spent a year working as a volunteer in a low-income community in Lima, Peru, and then completed an additional year of post-graduate education for teaching at Kings’ College, London, including a semester spent teaching in Spain.
Mrs. Rearick then taught for 13 years in London with a sabbatical spent in Poland. Upon meeting her husband she moved to Durham, NC in 2015. Mrs. Rearick enjoys traveling, music, sport and volunteering at church and loves spending time with her family, friends and baby daughter, Isabel.

Randy Shepard grew up in Raleigh and Carthage, NC. Mr. Shephard began playing piano at age 7 and began training church choirs at age 14. He has a passion for vocal music and helping young people find their voice through choral music. He founded the Martin Luther King, Jr., All-Children’s of Raleigh in 1986. He recently celebrated 30 years with that organization. He has been at DNS since 2011.
