2010-2011 Year End Report: Letter from Dr. Vannelle

Think back to that one person, place or thing that has changed the course of your life. To many it’s their education; it is often what opened the door to a changed life and a new and exciting world.

Ten years ago with a vision of making a difference and changing the lives of young men, their families and the community, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Moylan founded the Durham Nativity School. Since its inception, the lives of many young men have been changed forever.

Ninety-five percent of Durham Nativity School graduates have gone on to attend independent college preparatory high schools. DNS graduates are currently enrolled in thirteen prestigious independent high school such as the Asheville School, Durham Academy, Ravenscroft, the Hershey School and others. Eighty-two percent of our first three graduating classes are currently enrolled in twelve colleges which include Cornell, Elon, NC State and others and are well on their way to becoming community leaders.

Marian Wright Edelman wrote, “Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” Dr. and Mrs. Moylan took the quote to heart when they founded Durham Nativity School ten years ago.

We want to live with an attitude of gratitude and we want to infuse that attitude in our young men. Now, as we celebrate our ten-year anniversary we want you to know how very grateful we are. We are blessed to have a wonderful, dedicated learning community and we are able to serve our students and families because of your generosity, the generosity of our donors and volunteers. We extend our thanks to you for helping make the vision come alive and ask that you would celebrate with us the accomplishments we’ve reached together.
